This version may be more faithful to the novel but I found it irritatingly slow and a bloated collection of scenes that badly needed an editor.

The acting, for the most part, was good, but the plot was lacking and dreary. There was no explanation of why Mildred was so driven to ruining her relationships. Did she have a totally incompetent mother as a role model? And why so much…

Took me two days to binge watch this mini series. Glad our library bought this HBO mini series. Very interesting story line. Great acting by Kate with her emotions. Enjoyed the vintage cars.

We watched the 1940’s movie with Joan Crawford and then this mini-series. It was astounding how the mini-series was able to capture the same “feel” of the years the story covers as the 1940’s movie does. While the characters are the same…

Very well done. The acting was great by all. Winslet was incredible here. I would like to know what made Mildred so accommodating to her daughter---what in her history created such a glitch in her personality . . . to the point of…

This mini series was good, good story and acting, even though it had a different ending than the original movie,

A long time since I've seen the 1945 film, but I suspect that it might be quite different. I plan to watch the '45 film as this series was melodrama while the film as I remember it was film noir. The two films "A Postman Always Rings…

Why remake a movie that was just about perfect to start with?

Agree fully with the below comment. Old school at it's very best and a real trip in time. Very well done BY ALL. The gals will love this one.

An excellent example of how a miniseries can do a far better job of character and story development than your standard feature-length film. Brilliant performances all round, a plot full of twists but utterly convincing, a film in which to…

Couldn’t get into it.

Enjoyable renewal of the book adaptation. Kate Winslet is excellent as the struggling but successful business woman, a mother of a spoiled daughter, a sexy lover. There are some slow parts.

I've watched this series twice--Kate Winslet immerses herself in this role and it is incredible to watch. One of my favorite HBO miniseries of all time.

Boring. The characters did not grab me in any way. Mildred is completely unconvincing. I quit after the first episode, just not interested in learning what happens to these people.

I'd seen this when it first came out on HBO. AFter reading one book by Cain my interest was up as to how I might view the series now. Guy Pearce plays a smart arse jerk so well. Hardly recognized Mare Winningham till the end. Winslet…

I enjoyed this series. The sets and period pieces were wonderful. I loved some of the kitchen stoves shown. How very hard it must have been to be a single parent in a time period when women were expected to be married and considered…

This is a wonderful movie. I can relate to the independence she fought for and the problems of a single mother with strong willed children. Kate was great and well deserving of the awards she received. I wanted to see more.

Not the hard driven book that Cain wrote. It's hard to go back to those times and be convincing.

Slack & overblown. Like the photography, the production invariably avoids sweat and pain, and lands on the pretty and superficial, .. .... SO much padding.. . . endless shots of people walking, driving, . . awkward dialogue, both as …

I found Winslet to be miscast, and that made this Mildred Pierce hard to watch. Storytelling lacked depth. Disappointed.

I wanted to like it more than I did - just couldn't buy Winslet in this role - Mildred seemed wooden & sometimes her choices and actions were inexplicable .

Not a bad miniseries, but not to be compared to the Joan Crawford original. Excellent period sets, clothes, feel. Winslet and Pearce were on their game, but the story could've/should've been shaved down considerably.

I don't know why I sat on this DVD for so long, (maybe because it was so lengthy, and I prefer to "binge-watch"). It had plenty going on. The struggling single parent who would do anything for her child, anything...it's eerie how mothers…

Sorry, I couldn't watch this. It was too boring. I am a devoted fan of the Joan Crawford original and this version just does not have the electricity and sparkle that the original did.

This is a great series. Would like to go back and watch the original with Joan Crawford. Well acted by all.
