Presents biographies of 494 outstanding Americans who died between 1981 and 1985. Each essay appraises the circumstances and influences that shaped the life of the individual subject and concludes with a brief analysis of his or her legacy. The authors have provided basic data such as the places and full dates of birth and death, names and occupations of parents, number of siblings, educational institutions attended and degrees granted, names of spouses and dates of marriages and divorces, the number of children, and when possible, residences, cause of death, and place of burial.
