An entertaining set of interlinked fantastic and traditional motif filled children's tales.

Mahfouz is another of my favourite authors and his Cairo Trilogy one of my favourite reads. Arabian Nights and Days is a departure in that it is set in a medieval eastern land and retells some of the stories from the One Thousand and One Nights. Shahrzad, the Sultan, Sinbad, Aladdin, good and evil genies, a wise enigmatic Sufi master, schemers and thieves are all part of the bustling scene as one tale flows into the other.
