This anthology of 34 writers who were originally published during the settlement years of the American frontier represents an addition to the growing canon of "recovered" writing by 19th- and early 20th-century women. Unlike other collections predominated by trail narratives, this collections covers a broad spectrum of genres and voices, including poetry, fiction, and writing by women of Native American, Hispanic, Anglo, and Chinese ethnicity. Each selection is preceded by a brief biographical and historical preface. Miller is a writer who holds degrees in history, anthropology, and geology. Annotation c.
