Through no fault of his own, Orasmyn found himself in a no-win situation. Although the backcover states his choice was a foolish one, I disagree. It's not as if the feast could've been postponed 'til a suitable camel came along.
I first read this book as teenager and it still sticks with me to this day over ten years later. I have always loved the story of Beauty and the Beast, but it was so refreshing to have the story from the beast's point of view. This story is done so eloquently that it is hard to refute it as a fairy tale. Napoli brings a new spin on the reason why the beast became a beast and also how he communicated with Belle. This is an excellent book not just for romance lovers but for lovers of adventure and magic as well. I would recommend this for both boys and girls to read as well as adults.
Another beautiful and intricate fairytale retelling from Napoli. She takes the very familiar story and gives it new subtlety and depth. These are not traditionally 2-dimensoinal characters, instead you see personality, character, and growth from both the Beast and Beauty. The interactions of the Persian elements with the classic European tale are also fantastic.
I gave up half way through this book. Not extremely interesting
This is the tale of The Beast -- that is, what happened to him before he met Beauty. The world is so vividly depicted I could amost see and taste the world Donna Jo Napoli describes. I wish there was such great Teen Fiction being published when I was a teenager!
