Unfortunately, this medicore film barely captures the immense joy and Christmas cheer of the classic animated special from several decades ago. The late and great Boris Karloff's touch is deeply missed. While the actors in this movie try their hardest, the whole thing is rather lacking. The addition of a whole subplot involving the Grinch when he was younger as well as all of the crude, sexually themed humor slipped in seem to be a kind of stereotypical Hollywood attempt to 'adult-ify' what was already a fine story made for children. In fairness, the special effects are rather interesting, and several quick lines generate nice laughs, but this is overall a disappointing film.
