Fans of the Kathy Mallory novels are rewarded with one of the strongest novels in the series to date.

Mallory is back. After the last one (one of the weakest, in my opinion) I wasn't sure if I wanted to pick up the next in the series but this has more than restored my faith. This is one of the best. It is a police procedural but so much more. After all the veiled hints in previous books, we get the first really in depth look at Mallory's background as a potential murder victim turns out to be a prostitute who once took care of Kathy, the street kid. Because of this, you don't have to have read the backstory to enjoy this one. Riker has secrets of his own as he struggles to keep a lid on the past & honour Markowitz's memory. There are some things Mallory can never know. This is a taught, psychological thriller that keeps you turning the pages, just as eager to learn of Mallory's past as you are to figure out who the heck is killing these women. Oh, and you get to experience a hooker bookclub to boot. Who knew?
