Academy Award-winning director Robert Redford captures the majesty of the Montana Wilderness and the strength of the American family in this acclaimed adaptation of Norman Maclean's classic autobiography. Craig Sheffer stars as the young Norman, and Brad Pitt also stars as his brother Paul, an irresistible daredevil driven to challenge the world. Growing up, both boys rebel against their stern minister father. While Norman channels his rebellion into writing, Paul descends a slippery path to self-destruction. Co-starring Tom Skerritt as the Reverend Maclean and Emily Lloyd as wild-hearted Jessie Burns, A river runs through it is "destined to become a classic. It's a knockout".

Robert Redford's recounting on film of the classic autobiography of Norman Maclean. An Oscar winner for its cinematography, it is also a winner of the heart.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE ABOUT A GUY'S LIFE SINCE HIS YOUNG AGES IN MONTANA. BEAUTIFUL PICTURES AND HISTORY. SUITABLE FOR A VERY SWEET SOUL.

Disregard the previous comments. They must have been made by morons. Great movie from a wonderful book about a family that wants to know how to help those they love but are unable to, mostly because of the one who needs the help. A wonderful story.
Read the ending with a box of Kleenex nearby.

This movie is kinda boring but it wasn't meant to be like the exciting movies you have today. You saw inside a man's life. How he grew up, falling in love, how hard it was to watch his brother fall and eventually died. It was good in it's simplicity.

Skip It - A River Runs Through It (1992) 123 min. Despite a great cast (Tom Skerritt and Brad Pitt) and director (Robert Redford), I found this film a complete bore.
