If Alfred Hitchcock had made a latter-day noir-ish western out of Vertigo, it would have looked something like this. The suspense arises form the intentions of the characters and the tension from the viewer's anticipated outcome.

This film is about 70 years old, and has some pretty good B/W photography. My problem with the film is poor, inconsistent character development. A mild disappointment for me.

I have never been a bog western fan. I do love noir. So I gave this flick a try.

The acting was superb. It lived up to a great noir film.

I really enjoyed it. I might give a few more westerns a try.

A very good western with Robert Mitchum and Teresa Wright. Glad it was remastered and available at the Library. Wish they had more classics available on DVD.

Wow! Now I see why Scorcese helped restore this film. A cross between a western and a film noir.

High Noon, Night of the Hunter, and Shadow of a Doubt all mixed in this movie. Makes me want to see them again.

Of old black and white films - this is the surprise of the year for me.
