Legal land dealings with an oil company have brought up her long-gone husband's whereabouts, so Thelma retains Chantalene Morrell and Drew Sander's legal services to track down Billy Ray. They presume he's dead. That is, until a handsome cowboy claiming to be the man himself strides into their small town of Tetumka, Oklahoma - and soon moves back in with his deserted wife.
After a few days, Thelma starts to question the real identity of this man sharing her bed. He remembers their time together almost too well. Her suspicions and doubt begin to grow, as well as her fear. Afraid to confront him alone, Thelma confides in Chantalene and Drew. Chantalene agrees to help Thelma, believing that gut feelings play a mystical role in life, and starts digging around Billy Ray's past to see where he's been all these years.
Almost immediately, Chantalene's research brings her trouble. On an out-of-town trip, she barely escapes death on the road, and at home a few of her personal items have turned up missing. She's also haunted by waking dreams of a strange, lost girl. Trying to see the connections between all of these unnerving events proves difficult for this more than intuitive woman, which makes her all the more fearful for Thelma's life.
Unbeknownst to everyone involved, a third party lurks in the shadows. Songdog Jones has a dark interest in Chantalene. He believes she is a shape-shifter, who's the incarnation of a woman he once loved. Is Songdog the missing link to Billy Ray's past?
Chantalene Morrell agrees to help Thelma Patterson track down her husband, who has been missing for more than thirty years, at the same time Chantalene fears someone is stalking her.
