Born in 1907 of a Mexican mother and a German father, Frida Kahlo's relatively short life (she died in 1954) was punctuated by the Mexican Revolution, a bout with polio, and a terrible bus accident during her teenage years. Herrera's biography chronicles and critiques her artistic development and invites us into Kahlo's fascinating circle of acquaintances, including husband Diego Rivera, Andre Breton, and Pablo Picasso.
