Ben Dibbuk has a good job, an accomplished wife, a bright college-age daughter, and a patient young mistress. Even as he goes through the motions of everyday life, however, inside he feels nothing. The explanation for this emotional void lies in the years he spent as a blacked-out drunk before pulling his life together--years in which he knows he committed acts he doesn't remember. Then a woman from his past turns up at a gala for his wife's new gig at a magazine called Diablerie and makes it clear that she remembers something he doesn't. Their encounter sets wheels in motion that will propel Dibbuk toward new knowledge, and perhaps the chance to feel again.--From amazon.com.

Mosley writes a graphic and engaging thriller. His style is equally earthy and literary, and he uses it to transport you into a world that is familiar, but with exotic elements. The thriller ultimately gives way to a more interesting voyage of self-discovery that elevates the story above its genre.

Lots of phallocentric sex...the hero is well developed, but the women are two-dimensional cartoons of film noir sluts...I was disappointed, but I finished reading it to find out "who done it?"

Disappointing for a Mosley fiction. The characters were a collection of moral misfits that did not quite fit in the society norm or fringe. The ending made as much sense as "to be continued" of a novel in mho.

From the perspective of a huge Mosley fan, this was not one of his best, nor one of my favorites. Still has his trademark character personalities, just a little too much sex for the story (and I'm not being prudish about it). An good mystery read if you don't mind the R or X rated passages.

An intriguing tale that kept me guessing and hoping for the main character's innocence, even though he is not 100% likeable.
