Witnessing the deteriorating relationship between her parents, a young girl becomes immersed in her own world. Not having the words to express her emotions, she suspects that words themselves may be the problem, so she stops talking. Through her silence, she attempts to influence her parents' behavior to force them to communicate properly with each other and with her. Gives voice to a girl's confusion, cleverness and hopeful joy as she attempts to change her world.

As a child from a "broken home" I can relate to the discomfort this young girl feels. My critiques would be that the film seems to say that the parents should stay together and that it is very hard for the child for them not to. However with high incompatibility, loss of love and abuse (in this case both physical and emotional) in my opinion it is always better for everyone to separate. Other than that the constant voicing of what was on the child's mind was at times unnecessary and a bit too loud for "A Quiet Room." :) In my parent's situation, there was a negative heavy silence that you could cut with a knife - no one should have to live like that.

From the very first minutes this film defines itself as a rarity, a story told from the perspective of an emotionally astute child. Highly recommended!
