You may like this Quo Vadis better than the 1950s version; it depends on what you're looking for. On one hand, it's a longer and apparently truer to the book, The more naturalistic acting style and the appearance of the cast is probably closer to what the Romans were like than the glossier Hollywood version. There are a couple of fine performances, in the roles of Nero and of Petronius, by far the most interesting characters. On the other hand, the overall acting standard is not great, especially by the actress portraying Lygia, who defines passive dullness. The script collapses in the final episode into a series of choppy, unrelated scenes. BONUS: Peace roses, peonies, red hot pokers, and petunias in the ancient world.
