Book News
We've waited some 40 years for a new edition of the admirable Interpreter's Bible, 1951-1957 (cited in BCL3 ). The New IB is disappointing: the King James text is absent; do not dispose of the original set. It was the KJV that made the first edition so useful for those with a purely literary interest in the Bible. The KJV was the Bible for many centuries of English language readers & writers. That text was splendidly clarified by inclusion of the RSV and commentary. The NIB's obvious readership is reduced to theologians and other serious students of religion. This new edition contains full texts and critical notes of the New International Version and the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible in parallel columns. Lovely page design in two colors with headings, and text background in a gentle green. Text & Commentary are set in two-columns of crisp, highly legible type, on good, opaque, acid-free paper. The 12 volumes to be completed in the year 2000. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
