The first of two parts charts the outlaw odyssey of Jacques Mesrine, the legendary French gangster of the 1960s and 1970s who came to be known as French Public Enemy No. 1 and the Man of a Thousand Faces. Infamous for his bravado and outrageously daring prison escapes, Mesrine carried out numerous robberies, kidnappings, and murders in a criminal career that spanned continents until he was shot dead in 1979 by France's notorious anti-gang unit.

This was an interesting foreign true criminal/gangster movie. The main character is wild and impulsive and nearly devoid of conscience or fear. So of course I like the guy. This IS only part one of two, so I am looking forward to more of the same. Entertaining, but had some dull parts. Something tells me they could have taken this movie and part two, combined and edited them, and made a better film. Worth watching in my opinion for the violence and to see just how crazy this guy was.

SCARFACE in a foreign film

Apr 20, 2011

This film is excellent! I was drawn into the story of Mesrine immediately after putting the DVD in. Cassel is fantastic in the leading role as is a supporting role from Depardieu. Together, they make the movie sizzle! Excellent script, cinematography, & direction. The ending is amazing and I cannot wait for part 2 (I may have to wait awhile...I'm number 23 on the hold queue). Do not miss this film!

Another imitation of scarface with not so good directing and plot. But a good enough mindless mayhem.
