Add a CommentFine writing. I follow Wendig's blog daily and I like his approach to writing but I'm not so into violence and cruelty. Miriam Black is just how she would have to be, with the curse of her ability to see how someone's going to die, but even though I finished it, I won't be returning to that series. Too harsh for me.
I enjoyed this book. The storyline is unique to anything else I have read, and I found some aspects humerous.
Ick. The violence is over the top. Nothing about the characters or the story was compelling enough to keep me reading this.
This rough, hardened twentysomething has a lot on her plate, and very little control over the events that are unfolding. Miriam Black is plagued with the ability to foretell how you are going to die, and try as she might, she cannot change fate. When she meets Louis the truckdriver, it comes to pass that his death may be her fault. Wracked with guilt, she spirals into a world of nefarious characters who practice extreme violence against her as Louis's death looms over her.
A very satisfying and quick read!
A very dark take on the intersection between free will and morality. Lovably, gritty characters balance out the violence that is key to the story.
