Is it bad that this non-canonical Darcy is my favorite??? Because he totally is, Matthew Rhys COMPLETELY knocks it out of the park. And I love Anna Martin's Elizabeth as well, she brings that thoughtfulness and cleverness to the character that I so love. A great homage/sequel to Austen's classic.

A really nice adaptation/sequel to P&P. I kind of wanted to smack Darcy a little at a couple of points, and I didn't care for the treatment of Colonel Fitzwilliam, but overall it was still a great watch!

Well-done! Great costumes, beautiful interior designs, wonderful acting, the breath-taking nature shots, etc! I, definitely, recommend it!

Loved this creative continuation of the classic Austen story. Anna Maxwell Martin is part of a very talented cast. She is outstanding in the earlier movie of Dickens' Bleak House, which is arguably the best ever murder mystery. Read the book before seeing the DVD.

Such a disappointment. Casting, characterizations, charm and continuity were all off. The story, dialogue, and characters were bland. The sumptuous house and grounds did not make up for dreary atmosphere and dull dialogue. The hallmarks of Jane Austen's style - sly wit and comic characters were totally lacking. It was difficult to make it to the end, it was so removed from the style of anything Austen (excepting the costume and setting only) - and for me to say that of a JA adaptation, it has to be pretty bad. And so it was.

I say any Austen is better than no Austen! (even if the characters are re-imagined from left field, in some cases). The actress that played Lizzie perfectly matches the actor that played Darcy. In this story, they were both over shadowed by George and Lydia Wickham. When the Wickham's were not on screen, it was kind of slow. I was rather more interested in what they would do compared to the Darcy's. But I still enjoyed this mini-series immensely. The cinematography, locations and costumes were outstanding.

Anna Maxwell Martin is badly miscast as Lizzie. I assume the producers were aiming for a 'dark and mysterious' atmosphere, but ended up with 'bleak and depressing'. Personally, I would not recommend this to fans of the original Pride and Prejudice. It rather ruins the joy of the original's ending.

Very Boring.

I have not read the original by PD James so can't make the comparison there. However, it's impossible as you watch this to not compare with P&P characters as portrayed in other productions and notice that this Eliza and Darcy bear no resemblance to their BBC predecessors. But, even taken on its own, "Death Comes to..." is tedious and strangely flat, with lines spoken indifferently as if the actors had other things on their minds and better places to be. Two-thirds the way through, I bailed as well.

I highly enjoyed this drama. Everything about it is great. I can't believe that some people wrote negative comments about it.
