Isabelle Huppert is chewing scenery. She's like a modern Nora Desmond and it isn't clear if its just bad acting or she thinks the former actress she portrays is, as the mother of a woman in a coma, truly playing the role of a living martyr. A weird side story involving the senator's very strange daughter, detract from the narrative. Former Prime Minister Berlusconi's comment that the comatose, tetraplegic, lung damaged woman still menstruates and thus, "could be a mother" is extremely disturbing. For the pro-lifers in the movie she is viable as a human being for that reason.

a stew of suicide, assisted suicide and its advocates, coma patients, pro-life advocates, politics and family dynamics - and despite all of that it is a very watchable film.
