Adonis Johnson never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there's no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed's legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

I'm not a boxing fan, but this is as much about father-son relationships as it is about sport. Michael B Jordan is never less than magnetic, while Stallone reins in his tendency to overact enough to deserve his Oscar nomination. Supporting cast also excellent. Directed by Ryan Coogler, who also directed "Black Panther."

Creed is a movie about legacy and more importantly, the legacy of Apollo Creed. Apollo Creed was famous and well known for his skills as a boxer. His legacy ended but, a new legacy is waiting to be made as Apollo’s son, Adonis has got an interest in boxing. Adonis has had a tough childhood without his father, and has gotten into many fights just to survive, he hopes to use that to fuel his passion for boxing. Adonis will gladly train anywhere and anyhow if it means he can improve his skills as a boxer. As one legacy has ended, another is being forged in the shape of Adonis Creed who may one day exceed even his father. Creed was a fantastic movie, I really enjoyed the fighting, music, and the story. Although, there is some strong language and some violence, I would definitely recommend this movie and rate it 4/5 stars.

Great boxing movie and great continuation of the Rocky story. Apollo Creed was always my favorite character so it was great to see his story continue through his son.

As someone who is not much of a fan of the "Rocky" series (I know, heresy.), sports movies, or boxing, I was quiet surprised with how much I enjoyed "Creed." It's the 7th film in the long-running "Rocky" series, which seemed to be, pardon the pun, on the ropes. So I'll give credit to Sylvester Stallone, the guiding light of the series (Aside from starring, he has written, directed, and produced.), for taking it in a different direction. Michael B. Jordan stars as Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed's illegitimate son, who is trying to make it as a boxer without his father's name. Stallone agrees to train him. Tessa Thompson ("Dear White People") and Phylicia Rashad co-star. Jordan is great in the lead and Stallone is understated and actually very sweet as the aging Rocky. It did make me realize how few boxing movies have black protagonists, despite the fact that they dominate the sport. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, whose previous film, "Fruitvale Station," also starred Jordan, who deserves to be a star.

They were really reaching to make the guy Apollo Creed's son, instead of his grandson, which was the original idea. But then, what the hell, more implausible things have happened in the Rocky universe. I mean, how many years did his son age in the couple of months or so that Rocky spent in Russia?

I loved this

This movie sucked! Despite the strong reviews from critics and the 95% rating in Rotten Tomatoes (The original has a 93%), the film was really unnecessary and was worse than both "Rocky IV" AND "Rocky V", and that means it was pretty bad. The cast was bland and Stallone was nominated "Best Supporting Actor" even though his performance was okay at best and that his performance in "Rocky Balboa" was more deserving. This was probably not even supposed to be part of the same franchise, but MGM probably made it a Rocky film just to make sure it made money. Please do not watch this garbage, like all of the other films in the franchise, "Creed" is a repeat of the same old story except this time, it lacks the cheesy, but entertaining moments of it's predecessor.

I grew up in a household that were fans of the Rocky movie franchise, so I have a bit of a soft spot for those films. In recent years, the films have tapered off from Great to Time Better Spent Doing Other Things. Yet, this is not the case with Creed. Actor Michael B. Jordan breathes new life into an old franchise portraying the son of famed character, Apollo Creed. Not only is his performance amazing, so is that of Tessa Thompson. Even the return of Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa is pleasant. I highly recommend this film for any that have given up on the Rocky franchise!

wouldn't say it was incredible, but certainly seems like few boxing pictures have been released recently, so this was nice to watch.

Very good. Stallone did deserve the Oscar he won for best supporting actor.

From IMDb:

Rocky Balboa: Apollo? Yeah, he was great. Perfect fighter. Ain't nobody ever better.
Adonis Johnson: So how did you beat him?
Rocky Balboa: Time beat him. Time, you know, takes everybody out. It's undefeated.

Rocky Balboa: You can't learn anything when you're talking. That's a fact of life. As long as you're talking, you're not listening.
