"For a select group of girls, the Glittering Court offers a shot at a life they've only ever dreamed of, one of luxury, glamour, and leisure. To high-born Adelaide, whose wealthy family is forcing her into a loveless marriage, the Glittering Court represents something else-- the chance to chart her own destiny, and adventure in an unspoiled, prosperous new land across the sea. After a chance meeting with the dazzling Cedric Thorn, Adelaide poses as a servant to join the crop of impoverished girls he promises to transform into proper ladies. But her familiarity with upper class life comes with a price-- she must hide her identity from her new friends, mysterious refugee Mira and fiery former laundress Tamsin, and most importantly, from Cedric himself-- even though she's falling in love with him. Everything begins to crumble when Cedric discovers Adelaide's ruse, and she catches the eye of a powerful young governor, who wants her for a wife. She didnt leave the gilded cage of her old life behind just to become someone else's property. But nothing is as daunting-- or as wonderful-- as the potent, forbidden attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. One that, if acted on, would make them both outcasts in a wild, dangerous, uncharted world, and possibly lead them to their deaths"-- Publisher.

Adelaide escapes her life as a countess and fiancee when she runs away to join the Glittering Court. The Glittering Court was designed to transform poor girls into respectable ladies. After the girls have completed this program, they will be sold to wealthy men in the New World. The more time Adelaide spends at the Glittering Court, the more she begins to realize the life that she has missed out on. All the parties, late night bonding with friends, and the forbidden relationships. Adeline can't help falling in love with Cedric Thorn, the son of a wealthy businessman. It took me a week to finish this book because I constantly lost interest. To be honest, I really hated Adelaide, she is so selfish and naïve.

The Countess of Rothford is running out of money and needs to make an advantageous marriage. When she meets the man her grandmother arranged for her to marry, she is horrified. As arrangements are made to dismantle her household and prepare her for the move to her husband-to-be's family, a new opportunity arises. She pays off her ladies maid and takes her place at The Glittering Court. Here she will learn how to appear as a noble lady, be shipped to the New World, Adoria, and given the chance to find a wealthy husband. But things don't ever go as planned.

This story gives a feel of colonists moving to America - including commentary on forcing natives off their own lands in "fair" treaties. There is also interesting thought behind the idea of young ladies being sold to the highest bidder to be married off. While it is said they get a choice, the whole thing just seems a bit wrong, which I am surprised the main character never comments on, despite the fact that she had no problem expressing her opinions on every other issue. There is also an interesting religious conversation - gives a feel for Catholics vs. Protestants.

Overall, this book was packed with so much and I just couldn't put it down. I needed to know where it was going next and now I need the second book in my hands.

This book was awesome! Once again, Richelle Mead created characters that were absolutely unique then other characters in the book world, although you could tell that Adelaide had a streak of Rose in her. Can't read the next one when it comes out!
