I'm a huge Steve Earle fan, so I am biased, but this album did not appeal to me much beyond the track "You're Right (I'm Wrong)". Each song being sung as a duet throughout, and their voices didn't mix well. She's very faint and soft, and Steve is, well....Steve. The cover of Tobacco Road is a case in point. It just doesn't flow well. I own every Steve Earle album ever made, but will not purchase this one.
Very good musicianship. Nicely recorded, for the instruments. Every song is a duet that is recorded in such a way that the two singers sound as though they are both competing for back-up harmony. This has the unfortunate result of leaving the lyrics so far in the background that they are utterly lost. A remarkable feat to have accomplished considering Earle's very forward vocal styling.
