Well, this was a peculiar book. I was honestly surprised to find myself liking it, despite the exasperating writing style that I eventually warmed up to. This is what I call a mix of mystery, YA and family-type novel. I understand this will not work out for everyone. Here’s the disclaimer. This book is written in its own language of sorts. Some of the English words are translated into other English words, but by taking the time to understand and cherish the book it will all come to you. It is a hard, confusing but brilliant sort of book. If you are ready to sit down for hours reading and understanding this book, I highly recommend it. Sophie’s unspeakable story will touch you in ways that are unexpected and raw. And slowly, you will understand why the author chose to write the story in this way: because Sophie is nobody, from nowhere, with no language. Rating 3 out of 5
