The story of how session musicians and touring musicians have shaped the sound of modern metal, pop, and rock songs is a fascinating one, and the documentary touches upon a lot of the related issues. A number of revealing interviews take place that discuss a bunch of varying trends in the music business. The main flaw of the movie is its scattershot approach. One person's story fades into another one often, with time periods getting jumped around a bit, and the viewer seems left searching for the broader context. It feels as if this needed to be edited significantly and perhaps expanded with background materials. Still, the piece is totally worth watching even with its flaws.
