"Trell" is a murder mystery novel about a young girl who seeks to exonerate her innocent father. The book takes place in 1980s Boston, where a tough on crime police force has wrongfully imprisoned Trell Taylor's father, Romero, for the shooting and killing of a girl during a gang dispute. Trell teams up with a lawyer, Nora Walsh, and a reporter, Clemens Bittner, to uncover the secret of the murder, however she soon finds that some out there do not wish for the secret to be revealed. The book does a really good job of portraying how living in the kind of neighbourhood that Trell lives in would be, and a major theme you'll find throughout the book is the mistrust between the civilians of Boston and the police force. Overall, "Trell" was an easy, fast paced book that successfully and enjoyably tells its story, however it is aimed at younger audiences, as evidenced by the simplicity of the book and its need to explain a few concepts. I recommend this book for teens who enjoy crime novels or novels concerning things like "the war on drugs". -Edwin
