Directed, written, produced, and co-edited by James Cameron in 2009, this SF drama depicts the mid-22nd-century adventure in a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system.
Although the story seems interesting, I don't like the face and shape of a humanoid species.
If this humanoid is genetically engineered, it should look more like humans.
In any cae, it is a nice entertaining piece with excellent visual effects.

Avatar is James Cameron's most adventurous, visually-stunning, and epic Sci-Fi films I watched. Visual effects are absolutely groundbreaking and it was definitely recommended watching in your local movie theater in 3D, but (in my humble opinion) the story's too dry. However, I appreciate the exploration and environmental themes that the movie tried to convey. Avatar's a nice experience to go to other captivating worlds, but could've done a better job with the narrative.

This multi-million-dollar production could have been a whole lot better from its story's angle.

I must agree that this film could well have been half as long without all of that ridiculous and destructive shoot 'em up bang, bang military nonsense. I sure hope that the next four sequels already in the making will be more benign with an intelligent story line.
Still, I loved all the visual beauty and will view it again whilst fast forwarding through the boum, boum sequences.

Stunning visuals combine with a story so generic it's impossible to tell if it was ripped off from another story, or not (many could be cited, but if you come across a classic science fiction short story about a physically disabled man who via technology is able to live a second life as a blue "leopard" on Jupiter, yes, that's the one I'm thinking of). I'm told several sequels are planned. Lord.

Set in the year 2151 - This visually spectacular (yet emotionally haywire) tale of a ruthless rape attempt (by humans) of the planet Pandora for its valuable resources and the near-annihilation of the Na'vi peoples (an indigenous humanoid species of said planet) borrowed heavily (I think) from the well-known story of Tarzan.

Of course, Avatar's story was set on a much greater scale than that of a mere Tarzan-like "jungle" tale - But, all the same, that's how it appeared to me.

Avatar's story also brought to mind the reality of Christopher Columbus's "discovering" of America in 1492 and his search for valuable resources and the devastating effect that that fateful incident had on all of the native peoples of both the American continents.

With a film of this one's striking visual magnitude, it's so easy for the viewer to be completely swept away by the sheer beauty and wonder of it all and to just allow the story to take a back seat for itself.

And that is exactly what happened here with Avatar. It, unfortunately, relied far too heavily on the splendour of its visuals to carry it through and that left us with a story that already had the wind clearly knocked out of its sails by the half-way point.

*Note* - Directed by James Cameron - Avatar's budget was $237 million..... (*Watch movie-trailer*)
