Each of the Kopp women, including sister-in-law Bess, copes with the status of women in the early 1900s, in her own unique way. Amy Stewart fleshes out her characters, including the men, who range from seeing the injustice of the treatment of women to the misogynists; and gives us a real picture of life just before the U. S. enters WWI. All the details are there--the time it takes to do daily tasks and travel and to communicate without phones and computers. Constance has no fear of jumping into a rain swollen river to retrieve a prisoner or investigate the injustice done to an asylum inmate; but working for the new sheriff in order to straighten out another injustice takes all her mental strength. It takes the kindness of those she has helped to bring her back to life. The detective work and the story of the election and how the various characters manage the results involves the reader in the lives of all the characters.

The fourth Miss Kopp novel is a must read for fans of the series. Constance Kopp, lady deputy sheriff faces threats to her job as Sheriff Heath runs for Congress and a new Sheriff must be installed. But she continues to pursue causes and fight for justice where she must!

I love how Stewart has been able to weave real people into a book…especially a book with strong women who were there before women won the right to vote. Setting the story in an election year, in which Deputy Sheriff Kopp’s duties are part of the election fodder add to the story. I would read the books in order to get a feel for what has happened previously.

Based on the life of Constance Kopp, a pioneering woman in law enforcement, this is a fun (and enlightening) series. "Deputy Sheriff Kopp" is persistent -- and a good thing too! She's also willing to put justice ahead of her personal career and to face unfair (and even downright misogynist) newspaper and political opponents. She doesn't always win, but she does always find friends who admire her bravery and integrity. You may too.

An interesting historical fiction set right before WWI about a "lady detective". It follows the ups and downs of her job at a time women were expected to stay at home. Deputy Kopp, at 6 feet tall, makes hard arrests seem easy. But she enjoys the detective work also. This story is based on a real life, Constance Kopp. Much of it is documented by the author.

This series just keeps getting better! Constance is a good cop, her sisters are hilarious, and it's a fun peak into what the early 20th century was like for women in the United States.

I absolutely loved this installment of the Kopp Sisters novels and watching each sister wrestle with transitions in life and war. Constance has such a creative way of navigating a legal and societal system seemingly rigged against women, and once again Amy’s research is fantastic. Can’t wait for the next book!
