A well-researched, well-written book with a lot of angst that Young Adults will be able to relate to. Jenna Welch has written an eminently readable book about Olive whose father left her when she was eight, and Olive believes he abandons her in search of the mythical Atlantis. Then she receives an invitation to join him in this quest and she doesn't know what to make of it. Her mother insists on her going and thus begins an adventure. Not only does she meet her dad again she meets the charming Theo and we wonder if there is relationship potential there. I am old enough to be the grandmother of a young adult but i loved he book regardless!

I loved the Greek setting, but I grew bored with the story because it seemed like nothing was happening. I did, however, like the "big reveal," and the way each chapter began with a "thing" that Olive's dad had left behind. The climax and conclusion are definitely worth it. This adorable YA romance will make you hungry for moussaka, spanokopita, pastries, and of course... olives.

When Olive's dad left their family, 26 things were left behind. Jenna Evans Welch begins each chapter of this book with one of those things. The last one is the most important, so even if this book seems a bit on the long side -- don't give up on it. I do believe this book could have done with a bit more editing, but the overall message is so heartwarming and universal that I decided to give it 4.5 sparkly Atlantis stars. Olive believes her dad Nico left to find the lost city of Atlantis. She was only 8. Eight years later, before her last year of high school he summons her to Greece to help him and his assistant Theo with their work. They are filming a documentary about the search for Atlantis to submit to National Geographic. All of the clues and sites where they shot footage were so clearly described. I really felt like this book took me to Greece. And the Atlantis bookstore -- what a treasure.
