Someone once said to me "if you wanna know how the demise of the American family happened, look to Hollywood & the sexual revolution." Years ago I thought that was a foolish statement by some unenlightened prude. But as I watch more old classic films I see how right that statement was. Fine acting & lovely sets but this movie just didn't do it for me. The plot involved sad people making sad choices just because they could. There was no dignity in their circumstances with the exception of Pruitt who for most of the film until towards the end, had integrity. I'm not sure why this film got so many awards or is so popular. It's ultimately a shell of a film & has very little value to offer.
