Had Artemis Fowl on my list of reads for later for a while, and finally decided to pick it up. From the first chapter, I recognized Eoin Colfer's fantastic writing style and dialogue. The way he portrays his character's thoughts and skips from different points of view in one scene takes a little getting used to, but once you do that the story can unfold naturally. I was impressed with how he subtly made each character likable. Yes, Artemis Fowl is the villain of the story (though the opposite, that the fairies are really the villains, could also be true), but he is also relate-able, entertaining, and fun. The same could be said of some of the other main and side characters. The plot came to a finalizing climax, and the ending left room for the rest of the series. I definitely am planning to pursue it. :D
