Yep. This very pretty, often spectacular, display of bright, colored lights was almost completely ruined by the Roy Neary character and his anal obsession with building a sculpture of the Devils Tower in his living room._____ Another thing that lost this film some major points was its blatant (and very unwelcome) "in-your-face" advertisement plugs for such big-name companies as - MacDonalds, Shell, Coca-Cola, Piggly Wiggly, and Budweiser Beer._____ Even though the aliens (whose dreadfully cheap appearance made Gumby look awesome by comparison) were presented as being a peaceful, friendly bunch, I thought that the "mother-ship" which they arrived in looked very treacherous and threatening, just like a warship._____ And, last but not least, I thought that it was tres' bizarre, indeed, that Roy Neary chose to completely abandon his family (without even so much as a lousy "Good-Bye" phone-call) just for the sake of being included in with the team of volunteers who were selected to leave on the aliens' spacecraft._____ The Devils Tower in Wyoming was a wonderful location and rendezvous point for the humans to meet up with the aliens, though.
