I became a big fan of Ben Bova after reading his initial "Mars" book back in the '90s, so I found the idea of another sequel in the series appealing. The conflicts in the narrative this time, however, veered too much between the too-familiar (Mars exploration for pure science vs. permitting tourism, as in the previous book) and the hard-to-swallow (religious fundamentalism threatening the future of space exploration- this might have seemed more plausible during the latter days of the Bush administration when he was writing, but in 2013 I had a real hard time taking it seriously). Average fare, in the end.
