A page turner with a strong creep factor, brilliant characters and a riveting plot. Rose has always managed to make her villains gruesome and really authentic to real-life serial killers. Never have I picked up her book and found the killer to go half way. The level of creepiness seems to just get stronger and stronger with each book I read from her. She's got a unique way of writing the killer's point of view and diving into their mind. So when you get snap shots of his excursions you sometimes wish you could delete the sick thrill that you read because it definitely leaves a disturbing imprint. Eve was probably one of the strongest females I've read from Rose. Being a victim twice before and dying 'twice' definitely created a spin and driving force for Eve's actions. Still, Rose managed to blend Eve's in your face attitude with the vulnerability any surviving victim holds on to. It was heart breaking reading as Eve got taunted about her previous assault, stabbing and strangulation and it added to the killer's disturbing mind. I'm definitely intrigued by this 'hat squad' and I'm going to have to Google to get some more facts. Noah reminded me of Joe Friday off of the old radio show Dragnet, especially with the noir style that Rose incorporated into this book. Hoping that we get of the 'hat squad' in future books. I did figure out who the killer was earlier on but I didn't find it ruined the plot/story for me. Her characters, as always, are so vivid that you're drawn in and curious about what the killer will do next and how it'll affect the cast. If you're looking for a dark and creepy book I highly recommend this one.
