Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff set the bar almost insurmountably high with their Illuminae Files series, and while this opening installment to their newest series falls a bit short of that, that doesn't mean it's not still a fun read. Picture The Breakfast Club in space, and you've kind of got the idea. The seven POV characters, a sort of gang of misfits on the run from the government and stumbling onto secrets they are not at all prepared to deal with, are all really fun, and the number of narrators should be confusing, but somehow it's not. I will say I enjoyed the first two-thirds more than the last third, for reasons I can't get into without spoiling stuff, but that won't stop me from eagerly picking up the next book when it comes out. This is just fun space opera adventure.
