I love how this uses a shocking title to draw people into a book that highlights inequality. It definitely has a strong satirical element, but at the same time it is also chilling that the underlying prejudices and backwards viewpoints do exist. For those who have yet to read the first volume -- you should go read it! -- the underlying set up is that in the future women are labeled criminals for not keeping themselves pretty enough, obedient enough, etc. These women are exiled to a prison planet and their treatment is anything but kind. Other crimes of these incarcerated women committed include: getting divorced for a younger woman and overeating sweets.
