Madden Donahue, a professional baseball catcher, has known Eve Mitchell since high school. Eve is the owner of a burlesque club and the primary caregiver for her sister's two children after her sister leaves them in her care. When Eve needs health insurance and additional support, Madden proposes a marriage of convenience. Although Eve has long had feelings for Madden, she is reluctant to pursue a relationship due to her loyalty to her best friend and concerns about the impact of her profession on Madden's career. With circumstances changing, Eve agrees to the arrangement on the condition that the marriage remain private.
